That's Us!

Jeremy and I met about 10 years ago on the internet and got married on October 2, 2004. In February 2006 Jeremy got a Kidney Transplant at the Mayo Clinic. Almost a year to the date of his transplant we were blessed with the birth of our son Benjamin Dale Smith; who I might add is the most awesome kid I know! Jeremy and I are planning on celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary this October and I'm excited.

Jeremy is Probation Officer for Farmington Municipal Courts. He supervises those between the ages of 18-21 that have been charged with substance abuse. He is a great father and husband.

Joy is a full time wife and mother and is going to school part time to complete her degree in nursing or surgical technology. She can't decide right now. Maybe before she is 40 she will decide.

We are hoping within the next couple of years to move to Arizona and be closer to the Mayo Clinic for Jeremy's benefit and also so Joy can continue her career.

Auto-Pilot

So I have been home for almost a week and it has been rough trying not to run on auto-pilot. This surgery for me was like no other. It took about 3 hours total. All the ligaments and tendons except for 1 were in good condition. There was one that was damaged but not enough for repair. The doctor made a trench in the head of the hip bone allowing smoother movement and also cut into the femur bone allowing smoother movement. He also took out the swollen bursa and then cut a window into the I-T band (the large ligament that runs from your pelvis to your knee) over the bursa so they will not rub up against each other hoping the swelling won't reoccur again. Finally he did some repair from the previous surgery. There were stitches left in the muscle/IT band that caused a large knot on the side of my leg. He removed that and the scare tissue. All of the surgery was recorded for training since the problem I had with my hip was such a unique problem.

I have not been able to bare more than 20 lbs on my right leg which has been hard for me since I'm not use to sitting and doing nothing. Jeremy has been so AWESOME though in taking care of me. He has been doing all the cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc. I have pushed myself too far the past couple of days and ended up confining myself to the bed since I hurt myself twice.

Thanks for all the support and prayers. I will find out tomorrow more about the recovery and how much longer I have to stay off of it. Hope everyone has a great and happy holiday season!!!

Been too long....

My bad! Sorry it has been a while, but we have been busy with school, work, and Dr. appointments like none other these past couple of months. Jeremy is still trying to fight off this cold or flu that he has had for about a month now, and I'm getting ready for surgery next Wednesday in Albuquerque.

We are getting excited for Christmas though. Ben knows what the trees, ornaments, lights are for....only problem is not sure what to get him for christmas. Hope everyone had a great Turkey Day and that everyone has a safey and happy holiday season. I will try to get the new pictures posted that we have of the family up within the next couple of weeks.

Don't be strangers!

Trust

You know with my personality and way of thinking I should have known better than to stick my neck out there in the open, when I knew in the long run it would just be chopped off. I should have known that those you can trust is your family and those that need you in their lives because when something big happens, the rest just run. They run the other way and never look back. Your family and true friends will stand by your side, hold your hand, and be a shoulder to cry on. They will not judge you no matter what the situation may be, nor will they question the reasoning or cause behind something.

I question why people have to be open books and let everything out. Isn't that part of being who we are? Being different? Why do we have to be like the person next to us?

Papa's Birthday

My dad's birthday is this Wednesday, so Ben wanted to make his Papa something for his birthday. Ben loves to play with the little Perler Beads that you make shapes with then iron them together (his cousin Haley and Grandma Smith got him hooked on this). I just love to watch him because he has such an imagination with it. So here are some pictures of him making his Papa's birthday present.

Eva

Meet Eva....This is Ben's puppy that we decided to get him. She is a Border Collie/Healer Cross. She is named after Eva from Wall-E. Her and Ben seem like they will be a great pair. She follows him around and he loves to play with her. She has already started to pick up on things like fetch...I'm looking forward to seeing the 2 of them grow up together.

So I finally got a call from my Dr. in Albuquerque today. I love it when they say that the radiologist that read the MRI doesn't know what he is talking about and they want to see the MRI images for themselves. The radiologist here in Farmington says there is nothing wrong with my hip, which I know is nothing but BS. My orthopedic in Albuquerque also doesn't agree because he could see and feel that something was clearly wrong with my hip when I was down there a month ago. So in the morning, I have to go to SJRMC (my oh so favorite place) and pick up a cd from radiology and over night it to Dr. Franco in Albuquerque just so I know they got it, since apparently I have to do their job for them....At least Dr. Franco is taking good care of me. One thing I will say, is that Dr. Lucas and Dr. Franco are probably the best doctors I have had...

Yeah for Shift Change!!

Yeah for shift change!!! Today is the start of the new shift for the next four months. Should be interesting working 8 hour shifts again since I haven't done that since the day I was hired at dispatch. I'm excited about this shift though. I will be home more (I think - at least in my mind I will be) and will get to spend more time with Ben. I will also have the weekend off for the first time in 5 years. I'm also excited because over the next couple of months a few things will be happening not only with work but at home too....A few people that cause problems for me at work will be leaving and I'm working a fast working shift so it will go by quickly and no time for any BS.

At home, I will be finding out what is going to happen with my hip (hopefully no more pain pills), Jeremy and I will be celebrating our 5th Wedding Anniversary, we have a vacation to ourselves the 2nd week of November, and then last, we have a small family vacation in December up to Pagosa Springs for Christmas.

So I'm hoping things continue to go well for us and that Ben continues to grow and I'm crossing my fingers that potty training takes off like the fighter jets he so loves to watch....

Finally!

Okay, I think I have it all layed out as to how I want it. Hopefully I will be able to keep it up to date and keep things posted as to what is going on with the Smith Family. We are hoping to get some family potraits done soon. I just wish Ben wasn't so afraid of getting his hair cut; but what can ya do? We will just call Ben Shaggy from Scooby Doo!

Something New

So this was something new that I did. I wanted our family and friends to see how we are doing and what is going on with our little star. Well, he's not so little anymore.

Just a little bit of news...I had an MRI for my right hip on September 1 and I'm hoping to get an answer of what Dr. Franco in Albquerque is going to do with it. With the severe pain for the past couple of years I finally broke down with Jeremy's convincing and went back to the doctor.

Please keep in touch with us. We don't like to loose touch with family and friends!

BIG BOUNCE

Benjamin's trip to Big Bounce with his cousin Cheyenne

2009 Rotary Air Show

Here are a few pictures from the 2009 Air Show. Ben wanted to take the Air Force A-10 home with him, and I'm not talking about the model, he wanted the real thing. The kid is bound to fly...

Family Photos

Last week we went to have family photos done. Someone (Benjamin) wasn't very cooperative. So we will be getting them done again. So here are the pictures that we do have and we will have more again soon...
